Project jellycube
Fall 2018 - Summer 2020 (Phase 1)
This project is studying the costs and benefits of sharing intellectual property in a creative context.
Specifically, a library of similar games is being developed. Half of the games will be published in a traditional manner, and the other half will be published the same way, but also with their design and art assets released under open licenses (e.g. Creative Commons Share-alike).
The two cohorts will be tracked in objective terms via costs (development, maintenance, and marketing) and success (game downloads). Additional descriptive data will be collected regarding non-numerical aspects, such as re-use, "pirating", and engagement with the IP.
This project is being done in collaboration with the Ringling College of Art and Design's Collaboratory program under the leadership of Richard Dakan and the University College Cork of Ireland under the guidance of Dr. Joseph Feller.
